UPSTANDERS Film and Discussion
October 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Suffolk Public City Schools and Partners for Community Health Collaboration present this original Indieflix film that explores all sides of cyber-bullying and its impact on the bully, the victim, bystanders, and their family members. With the increase in social media use, bullying is more prevalent than ever.
Upstanders weaves personal stories of teenagers and their families, and interviews with educators and brain-scientists together to demonstrate the importance of empathy and resilience. Learn what is needed to transform attitudes and what actions can be taken to change human behavior and develop greater positive connection to one another.
The film highlights that everyone has a part to play in eradicating cyber-bullying, and gives bystanders the confidence and tools they need to become Upstanders and change the narrative and the outcome.
Immediately following the film a panel of experts from Suffolk Schools, CHKD and NAMI will comment on the film and answer your questions.
Local Panel Experts:
- Cindy Dever, Coordinator of Student Support, Suffolk Public Schools
- Kails Lovette, President, ODU NAMI-On-Campus Club
- Ashley Spratley, LCSW, CHKD
This program is made possible through the generous donations from Bon Secours, CHKD, Sentara Health and Riverside Health.
